Because I am a dumb person who's still awake at this hour and keeps forgetting she's not in her twenties anymore and brain will complain in the morning.
As I said, because I still master the art of procrastination, I thought about checking what's the status of LiveJournal. Interestingly, I see many of you still seem to use it regularly.
In this day and age of moving trends, I'm curious: why do you still use LJ? And in which ways has LJ evolved (or devolved) in the past, oh, 5 years?

And how are you? :)

I don't use it that regularly, which is a shame as in the past I've enjoyed looking back over entries. I think it's because the short stuff seems more suitable for FB, and I feel that I have less exciting to share (which is untrue, I just talked more crap in my younger years!)

I think I also feel the pressure now to write something "good" here, and so more often than not, just put it off.

LJ has added new features which I don't generally use in the last 5 years.

I tend to use Facebook for quick updates and the games. LJ feels more like I need to use it for proper blog updates, and I rarely manage to get around to those. I do mean to it just doesn't seem to happen.

Oh yeah, personally I tend to fit my performance work in the morning, in between flossing and deciding I really need to do laundry that evening. The shower is my world, my stage!
I envy how you've managed to make your interest into an hobby and then a proper slice of your life and balance it with work. Beat the entropy and all that. Well done!

Yes, I've been wondering if it's a general trend in this day and age (rare handwritten letters -> occasional long e-mails -> frequent blog/journal posts -> short status updates on the move) with time of response going the other way. Or if one is just naturally lazy to produce long posts unless so directed or because there aren't valid alternatives.

I'm a dual LJ/DW user (DreamWidth) these days. But since lots of people are only on LJ I keep reading it. I'm trying out Diaspora to see where that is going (free software, distributed social network thingie).

Lots of people here appear to be on DreamWidth which I find interesting since it's very much limited to LJ people: no one I know outside appears to use it.
Have heard of Diaspora but can't remember what specifically.

I only use LJ to catch up with friends - have now moved to DW.

Sadly sites like LJ are driven by critical mass and it's largely lost that. My Internet discussions have moved from CIX, to LJ, to DreamWidth, to Facebook. In each case it's led to a loss of ongoing serious conversations - for decent discussion either mailing lists or real life now rules.

On the other hand Facebook and Twitter are excellent for organising events, finding what's on and catching up with people.
